Urgent Need for Boys Clothing Donations

“My foster child was in desperate need of clothes, shoes, and other items. The Foster Alliance provided all of that including a bed for him to sleep in. I am very appreciative of the help!” -Jessica, Foster Parent

In 2013, The Foster Alliance shifted its mission to meet the changing needs of the state’s foster care community by providing beds and other essential items. This year, we have seen an increased need for clothing, and as of June 30th, we have provided 38,300+ articles of clothing to children in foster care including socks, underwear, bras, dresses, pants, shirts, shorts, and more.

The clothing section in the Diane and Bruce Halle Foundation Foster Family Resource Center recently received a makeover from a team of professionals from Scottsdale Leadership. The goal of the project was to transform the space, making it feel like a store. Together, this dedicated group planned, organized, and worked tirelessly to provide our families with a joyful shopping experience!

“My grandson felt very special being allowed to do a little shopping and pick out the things he liked.”        -Kim, Kinship Provider

Children in foster care often leave home with nothing but the clothes on their backs and “shopping” for their own clothes gives them a sense of pride and ownership over some of the very few things they possess. The Foster Alliance ensures children in foster care are looking their best, helping create confidence that can last a lifetime.

“They were so excited to try stuff on and show me. It boosted their confidence for going back to school in person and gave them ownership over belongings. Knowing these things belonged to them now was really important for them.” -Crystal, Foster Parent

Through innovation, collaboration, and a constant focus on children in need, we make an impact on the lives of children in foster care. We are grateful to our community partners Delivering Good, Ticket to Dream, and Together We Rise. Through these partnerships, we have been able to fill our warehouse with clothing, accessories, socks, underwear, and shoes from stores such as Justice, Old Navy, The Children’s Place, Famous Footwear, and Carter’s. And most recently, we received hundreds of suitcases from Together We Rise that were distributed to foster families who attended our Back to School Support Week in June. Individual donations of gently used and new clothing help fill in the gaps and our shelves as well. They are sorted, folded, and put on the shelves by our volunteers so they are ready to give to children in foster care. Currently, the need for boys clothing donations, both used and new, remains urgent. You can learn more about lending your helping hands by volunteering, donating, hosting a collection drive, or shopping our Amazon Wish List at azhelpinghands.org.
